Hi! I posted on IG last week a little glimpse at all the sketchbooks I’ve filled up over the years (since starting Makewells in 2012), and I got so many questions about what sketchbooks I like to use. So I thought I’d give you a peek inside the latest sketchbooks and a little info on why I like the three sketchbooks I’ve been working in.
Lately, I’ve been working in an Arteza watercolor book - it’s pretty big, 8.3” x 11.7”. Currently, they say it’s out of stock, so this isn’t much help. But I really like the way it opens flat with no spiral in the middle, and it’s great for all sorts of media.
My most often used sketchbook is a Canson mixed media book. I have gone through 12 of them now, and they are also great for all kinds of media. I used watercolor, acrylics, markers...everything in here. And they are super affordable. There is a spiral in the center, so I usually work one page at a time as opposed to creating open spreads.

And the last favorite sketchbook I use I reserve mainly for doing funky floral spreads in. It’s Moleskine Art Sketch album. It’s better for acrylic paint for me, but I’ve still used a lot of different supplies in it. And it’s very flexible and nice that the pages open flat and I can create nice long spreads. I use this one a lot if I put up a time lapse video.
So there you go! My 3 favorite sketchbooks to work in (right now that is…). If you’d like to see more from my sketchbook, check out these posts:
